It is with deepest sorrow that the family and friends of Stephen Emslie
must say goodbye. Steve will be missed by so many, including his beloved
mother Dorothy Bakker, stepfather Danny Lui, brother Gregory Emslie and
stepbrother Alexander Lui, nephew of Gerald Bakker (Monika) and cousins
David Danny and Laura, Margaret Morphy (John) and cousins Sarah, Doreen
and Emily, Gregory Bakker (Debbie) and cousins Ryan, Deanna, Talia, Henry
Bakker (Luke), Patricia Cortis-Bakker and cousins Lucien and Ruth, Janice
Hurlbut (David) and cousins Michael and Christopher, and Brenda Emslie
(Keith). Steve was predeceased by his father John Emslie.

Steve was born in Hamilton and spent his early years in Southampton before
he moved to Guelph where he attended College Avenue and Centennial
Collegiate Vocational Institute. Steve graduated from the University of
Guelph (UoG) with a Bachelor of Environmental Engineering in 2016.
Steve excelled at every sport. He played rep and high school hockey. He
was on the UoG Super Smash Bros Collegiate team. He composed poetry and
music, and loved to visit the cottage with views of the Chantry Island
Lighthouse. He supplemented a successful academic career with
international travel. Steve was in the second year of a Masters in
Engineering with his mentor Dr. Bassim Abbassi at UoG; plans had begun for
a PhD project. Steve will be remembered for his spark, creativity and
intelligence. Steve always made sure there was a space in the game-room
for another friend.

Friends and family are invited to meet with Steve's family at the
Gilbert MacIntyre & Son Funeral Home, Hart Chapel, 1099 Gordon Street in
Guelph on Sunday October 22, 2017 from 6-9pm, and Monday October 23, 2017
from 2-4pm and 7-9pm. The Funeral Service will be held at the St George's
Anglican Church, 99 Woolwich Street in Guelph on Tuesday, October 24, 2017
at 10:30am with a reception to follow. There will be a private internment
at a later date. Expressions of sympathy can be offered to any charity
including the St George's Anglican Church and the University of Guelph.
