Clarence Fish

Of Guelph, passed away peacefully, at LaPointe-Fisher Nursing Home, on Thursday, March 23, 2017 in his 92nd year. Devoted husband for 72 years of Shirley Fish (nee Watson) and loving father of Jim and his wife Erin. Caring Papa to Christina, Shawn and Michelle. Cherished Great-Papa to Inessa, Kyla, Quinn and Sarah. Predeceased by his sister Lucy Prior, and brothers Norman Fish and Donald Fish. Clarence was a hard worker and enjoyed his many-faceted career, starting at a young age at Biltmore Hats. His later employment included the Collander Foundry, Aberfoyle Mills, Homewood Laundry and General Electric. He was also one of the earliest employees at Frank Hasenfratz’s original location on Silvercreek Parkway North, where his various machinist skills were noted. For many years he ran his own paint and paper-hanging business and worked at many private homes and commercial businesses in Guelph during the 1950’s though the 1970’s. During the summers Clarence turned to roof coating and barn painting throughout much of Southern Ontario, and as far north as the Bruce Peninsula. One of his favourite memories was working on a barn roof, and performing a handstand. In his later years, he was employed at MacKinnon Transport where he thoroughly enjoyed his varied roles, and formed personal relationships with the MacKinnon family along with several of the staff. His company truck was a source of pride for Clarence. He continued to work into his late 70’s and looked forward to going to work every day. One of his major enjoyments in life was his cottage near Southampton. Always working, Clarence would stop at the end of the day and enjoy the beautiful sunsets offered by Lake Huron. They are in his soul forever. We will miss his humour, his unique outlook on life and his love and passion for his family. Special thanks to the many staff at LaPointe-Fisher Nursing Home, for their love, care and patience during his final years. Their support was excellent and greatly appreciated by his family. Please join us for a celebration of Clarence’s life with refreshments and stories to share, at the Gilbert MacIntyre and Son Funeral Home, Hart Chapel, 1099 Gordon Street, Guelph in the Fellowship Room on Thursday, March 30, 2017 between the hours of 12:00 p.m and 2:00 p.m. Cremation has already taken place.
