Passed away peacefully, surrounded by family, on Wednesday, May 1, 2019. Jim is survived by his devoted wife Catherine (“Kit”) of 57 years, his son James, his daughter Judy Ann, his son-in-law Terry and his grandchildren Daniel, Sarah and Colin. Jim will be sorely missed by his sisters Madeline and Sharon, and numerous nieces and nephews. Jim was predeceased by his parents James J. Fowler and Florence (Murphy) Fowler, and brothers-in-law Patrick Drake and John Manning.

Born in Lawn, Newfoundland, Jim distinguished himself early by being one of the few students from the area who attended university at that time. After studying at St. Francis Xavier University and Nova Scotia Technical College, Jim received his professional designation as an electrical engineer. He went on to marry his high school sweetheart, Kit, and together they moved to Toronto where he enjoyed a long career with Ontario Hydro. After retirement, Jim and Kit moved to Guelph to be closer to his grandchildren.

Special thanks go to the staff at the Ellington who took such good care of Jim in his last years, and to the staff at Hospice Wellington, who made Jim’s final days so peaceful.

Resting at the Gilbert MacIntyre and Son Funeral Home, Hart Chapel, 1099 Gordon St., Guelph, where the family will receive friends on Sunday, May 5 from 3-5 p.m. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Joseph’s Church, 409 Paisley Rd., Guelph, on Monday, May 6 at 10 a.m.

In lieu of flowers, donations to the Canadian Society for Mucopolysaccharide and Related Diseases or Hospice Wellington would be appreciated.
