GILES, Stan-the-Man (Francis William Stanley)

Posted

Giles
Crossed over the rainbow bridge on Thursday, February 28, 2019 at the ripe
old age of 91.
Stan was a salt of the earth family man, and all around good guy.
He loved the outdoors and was a very passionate sport fisherman,
who could drop a fly on a dime and of course, spin a yarn or two about the
big one that got away.
Stan shared his love and respect for nature with his kids and their
friends on numerous camping adventures, and they were adventures!
He was an avid chess player who honed his skill while working as a
corrections officer at the
Guelph Correctional Center (Ontario Reformatory) for 32 years.
Survived by the love of his life, Doreen (nee Cardwell)
Predeceased by his daughter Linda Marie,
Loving father of Laurie (Don Hunter), Lynn (Ian Hutchison),
Cheryl (Steve Ritsema), sons Stephen, and Wayne (Caren Kusel).
Fondly remembered by his grandchildren Baxter & Gabriel Ritsema, and
Haley & Spencer Giles. Dear brother of Ken Giles (Sally) of London, ON.
Predeceased by brother George (Marg), and sister Diana Steels (Archie),
London, ON.
He will be missed by his many cousins, nephews and nieces in Canada, Costa
Rica and Ireland.
Canine companions Dexter, Teak, Guinness and Splinter will also miss their
visits to Grandpa.
Heartfelt thanks to his table-mates, friends and staff at The Royal on
Gordon for the love, laughs and support they shared with Stan and his
family throughout his stay.
Stan’s family is very grateful for the kind care he received from the
staff on 4 West at The Guelph General Hospital.
A casual Stan-the-Man style Celebration of Life will be held on Sunday,
March 17, 2019 from 1:00 PM to 4:00 PM in the Fellowship Lounge of GILBERT
MACINTYRE AND SON FUNERAL HOME, HART CHAPEL, 1099 Gordon Street, Guelph
Ontario. Memories will be shared at 2:00 PM. In lieu of flowers,
donations to The Guelph Humane Society or The Grand River Conservation
Authority would be greatly appreciated and may be made by contacting the
funeral home by calling 519-821-5077.
