GORRIE Muriel Lylian

Muriel Lylian Gorrie, known to most as Muff, passed on quickly and peacefully at home in her 94th year.

Muff was a loving wife for 68 years to her late husband Bruce. Loving mother of Candace, John (Janis), Richard (Wendy Agnew), and Susan (Luc Luthi). Proud grandmother of Steven Luthi, James Gorrie, Martine Luthi and Jonathan Gorrie; and delighted great-grandmother of Ethan, Elise, Emily, Liam, and Mila. She is predeceased by her sister Sug and her brother Lou, as well as her parents Lucien and Lylian Messinger.

Muff was born in Chicago and spent her early years there and in Coral Gables, Florida. The family moved to the Beaches in Toronto when her father Lou started a manufacturing business in Scarborough. When her mother didn’t attend social activities her father would take Muff along.

Muff went to school at the Ontario Ladies College in Whitby and Gould Academy in Maine. Her stint at Queen’s was shortened by marriage and the war, and as a naval officer’s wife, she followed Bruce to Halifax and later to Prince Rupert.

After the war Muff and Bruce eventually moved to Etobicoke where they lived and raised their family.

Gracious, with a devilish sense of humour, Muff had a way of connecting with people and always made a lasting impression.

Muff was a champion curler, both Ladies and Mixed, as well as an avid golfer, with memberships at the Granite Club, St. Georges, and the Ladies Golf Club of Toronto.

Muff shared Bruce’s love for boating and sailing, a first-rate mate in all senses of the word. Along with family and friends they sailed the Great Lakes, the Caribbean, as well as the Atlantic and Mediterranean coasts of Europe. Later, with Bruce as her cabin mate, she made numerous cruises around the globe.

Muff spent the last five years at the Village of Arbour Trails where she was dearly loved by staff and the other residents.

A Memorial Service for Muriel will be held at the Gilbert MacIntyre and Son Funeral Home, 1099 Gordon St., Guelph on Thursday July 19 at 2:00 p.m. in the funeral home chapel.

Memorial donations made to Michael House, Guelph, or to your favourite charity would be appreciated.
