GRANGER, Endron Thomas

With great sadness in our hearts we announce the sudden passing of Edron Thomas Granger in his 86th year on Friday February 10th, 2017 at the Guelph General Hospital. Cherished and beloved husband of 58 years to Joan Granger (nee Ruff) and devoted father to Michelle Smith (Paul deceased), Tracy (Peter) and Mark (Judy). He was also an amazing grandfather to Taylor (Dave), Reece, (Jess), Connor, Eric (Eleanor) Shaelynne (Cody), Carly and Lauren. Edron was the loving son of Edith and Ronald Granger and brother to Graham and his family. Ed lived a rich life, full of experience and adventure. Born and raised in England, he came to Canada with his family at the age of 16. Graduating early, he struck out on his own, working a variety of jobs throughout the US and Canada to support his mother and brother after the loss of his father. As a long time Guelph resident and businessman, he was employed by the W.C. Wood Company for 42 years as the Corporate Director of Procurement. It was while he was employed at Wood's that Edron, while raising a young family, graduated from the University of Guelph with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in History. Ed proudly served as a reservist in the 11th Field Artillery Regiment, RCA from 1955 to 1989 and retired with the rank of Captain. Edron derived great strength from his Christian faith and was long standing member of St. Georges Anglican Church. He joined the Guelph Wellington Men’s Club and found great pleasure from his daily trips to the Guelph Airport Café, where he discussed the world's problems with like-minded intellectual friends over coffee. Ed, an engaging and curious man, was an avid reader. He believed in knowledge, experience and education and found great joy in learning and discovery, even more so when he was able to share it with others. He had a keen interest in American Civil War history and tracing the roots of his own family ancestry. Also a man of many passions and endless eclectic pursuits, Ed loved flying prop and glider planes, sailing, skiing, swimming, painting, and languages and enjoyed his extensive travels throughout Europe and Asia. Ultimately, Ed’s greatest accomplishment and source of pride was his family. He had a laugh that lit up a room and he will be missed deeply by all those who knew and loved him. Thank you to the nurses in the ICU for their loving care. Donations can be made to the Guelph Humane Society and the Heart and Stroke Foundation. Friends will be received at the Gilbert MacIntyre & Son Funeral Home, Hart Chapel, 1099 Gordon Street, Guelph, on Wednesday, February 15, 2017 from 2:00 – 4:00 p.m. and 7:00 – 9:00 p.m. A Funeral Service will be held on Thursday, February 16, 2017 at St. George’s Anglican Church at 1:30 p.m. As expressions of sympathy, donations to The Guelph Humane Society, or the Heart and Stroke Foundation would be
