Of Guelph, passed away peacefully at the Guelph General Hospital on Saturday, March 26, 2016 in his 93rd year. Beloved husband of Gladys Margaret (nee Gruer). Loving father of David, Thomas and Scott (Angie). Loved grandfather of Jaclyn, Joel, Sarah, Blake, Robert and Steven. Great grandfather to Caleb, Mason and Bryson. He will be missed by his brother Grant and sisters Isabel and Shirley. Predeceased by brothers Art, Jack and Bob. Ed was born in Lindsay, Ontario on September 6, 1923. He was eldest son to Sadie and Milton Green. Ed attended Lindsay Collegiate (L.C.I.). After high school he joined the R.C.A.F. in 1943 and completed a tour of Bomber Command as an air gunner. He served with the R.C.A.F. 78 Squadron and was shot down twice during his tour. Later he volunteered for a second tour with the Tiger Force which was a new squadron formed for fighting in the far east. Ed was a 70 year member of the Royal Canadian Legion Col. John McCrae Memorial Branch No. 234, Past President of Brampton Kinsmen Club and a member of the Guelph-Wellington Men’s Club. A service to celebrate Ed’s Life will be held at the WALL-CUSTANCE FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL, 206 Norfolk St., Guelph, Monday, April 4, 2016 at 2:00 p.m.. Reception to follow in the Wall-Custance Family Reception Centre. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions to the Heart and Stroke Foundation would be appreciated. A tree will be planted in memory of Edmund M. Green in the Wall-Custance Memorial Forest, University of Guelph Arboretum. Dedication service, Sunday, September 18, 2016 at 2:30 pm.
