Passed peacefully on Thursday, January 18, 2018, in Guelph Ontario. Anne was in her 102nd year. She was born in Hamilton, Ontario, in 1916 and came to North Bay as a young girl, where she was a resident until the age of 95. Anne graduated from the North Bay Normal School (Teacher’s College) in 1935. Her first teaching assignment was in a one room school in Chiswick. Next she taught at St. Mary’s in North Bay, Ontario. During the war years, Anne worked as a bookkeeper at the Empire Hotel. It was at a dance at the Empire that she met the love of her life, her late husband, Lorne Hicks. Lorne was the airport manager in North Bay for 32 years.

In the late 1950’s Anne returned to teaching at J.W. Trusler School. Anne retired as a grade 7 teacher at Centennial Public School. She was a devoted and compassionate teacher and many of Anne’s former students remember her as a “favourite” teacher. In retirement, Anne and Lorne spent many a happy afternoon painting landscapes in their sunny North Bay home.

Anne was a loving and dedicated mother to her four children, Lorna-Lee, Holly (Stuart), Peter and John (Marilyn). Her four grandchildren, Carly, Ashley, Mira and James delighted in their trips to Nanny’s house, where she always had a home-baked cake awaiting their arrival.

Anne is survived by her two younger siblings Eugene Baldasaro and Marie Labreche, both of Hamilton. She is predeceased by her siblings Wallace Baldasaro, Leo Baldasaro, Dominic Baldasaro, Margaret Stafford and Helen Cosway. A Memorial Mass will be held at Holy Rosary Church, 175 Emma St., Guelph, Ontario on Tuesday, January 23rd 2018, at 10:30 a.m. Interment will take place in North Bay at a later date.
