Connie was an avid bird watcher and hiker who enjoyed nothing more than walking in any season with her bag of bird seed, binoculars and a well-used copy of Roger Tory Peterson’s bird guide.  Favourite spots were Kortright Centre for Conservation in Vaughan, the Deer Trail in Elliot Lake and Bechtel Park in Waterloo.

Other hobbies/interests included gardening, knitting, sewing, woodworking and volunteering with her local church, the Canadian Red Cross, Canadian Cancer Society, the Block Parent Program and others. Her volunteer work was recognized in 1977 when she was named the Brampton Citizen of the Year.  She was also awarded the 1984 Ontario Bicentennial medal presented by then Premier Bill Davis.

Heartfelt thanks to the staff at TwinOaks of Maryhill who made sure Mom was safe and cared for over the last three years.

As per Connie’s wishes cremation has taken place and there will be no formal service.  Arrangements entrusted to the WALL-CUSTANCE FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL 519-822-0051 / www.wallcustance.com.

Her family encourages everyone to hold on to your good memories and talk about them before they are gone.  Donations in Connie’s name to the Alzheimer Society of Canada https://alzheimer.ca/en are appreciated, especially since January is Alzheimer’s awareness month.

A tree will be planted in memory of Connie J. Johnston in the Wall-Custance Memorial Forest.
