Gerda Kalisch

Passed away suddenly at the Village of Riverside Glen in Guelph, Ontario on October 29, 2018.

Predeceased by her husband John (1991). Cherished mother of Bettina. Gerda immigrated to Canada from Austria in 1962, married her soul mate and settled into a new life in Hawkesbury, Ontario.

She thoroughly enjoyed her years as wife, mother and homemaker and will be remembered by many as a fantastic cook, an avid swimmer and a generous friend and neighbour who also had a soft spot for animals. She lived in the same house, a home she loved, for over 50 years, only moving to Guelph recently when she needed extra care. Heartfelt thanks are extended to Barry Mullin (Gerda could not have had a better neighbour), Peter, Jean and Anne Hodgson and George (2017) and Edith MacInnes for their tremendous support and help when Gerda moved to Guelph. Gerda also wanted to acknowledge and thank many other friends and neighbours for their kindness, visits, phone calls and many laughs over the years. A special thank you to the caregivers and administrators at the Village of Riverside Glen for their daily care and being there in Gerda’s final moments.

Gerda was also grateful for the comfort, care and support she received through ParaMed, Bayshore Home Health and the Local Health Integration Network in Guelph and Hawkesbury. Thank you also to Dr. Ruddock for looking after Gerda during her time in Guelph and Dr. Lajoie for providing many years of care as her family physician in Hawkesbury.

In respecting Gerda’s wishes, there will be no service and cremation has taken place. A get-together with friends and neighbours will be arranged in Hawkesbury at a later date. For those who so desire, donations to the Humane Society, Pet Patrol or OSPCA would be appreciated.
