2021-12-28 KASHA Marion

Marion Kasha passed away on December 26, 2021 at the age of 87 following surgery for a broken hip that she was not able to recover from. She was born in 1934 in Didsbury Alberta to Karl and Bertha Lenz and raised on their farm near Olds. She put herself through the university to become a teacher. She started dating the love of her life Ken Kasha in her final year of university and they married in August 1958. They had two children Lorelei and David and lived in St Paul, Minnesota, Ottawa and then Guelph when Ken became a professor at the University.

Marion taught primarily grade 6 as she loved to see the growth of young minds at that age. At the end of her teaching career, she became the President of the Wellington Women Teachers Federation.

Marion and Ken travelled to many places around the world and lived in England and Australia when Ken was on sabbatical. They enjoyed many activities together such as skiing, sailing, curling, square dancing, golf, bridge and entertaining friends, and were members of Trinity United Church. Marion joined the PEO Sisterhood and was a strong Liberal supporter. They bought a cottage in Meaford on Georgian Bay in the late 70s and the family enjoyed many happy weekends together.

Marion developed Parkinson’s and macular degeneration in her 80s which frustrated her as she could no longer help others which was something she loved to do. Her unfailing love and support of her family, her work ethic and determination shone throughout her life.

Marion is survived by her husband Ken, her children Lorelei Jones (Ken Jones) and David Kasha (Susan Lapp), grandchildren Karina Hopkin (Jamie Hopkin), Wesley Jones and Greg Jones (Alessia Jones) and great granddaughter Alice Hopkin, her brothers Al Lenz and Gordon Lenz (Melody Lenz), as well as many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
