We are sad to announce the passing of Wayne Gordon Keefe on February 19,
2021, with family by his side at the age of 78. Wayne was born in
Montreal on Sept 16, 1942. His parents preceded him in passing. He has
been fighting diabetes and the accompanying complications for a number
of years, and after a heroic fight he has finally succumbed to the
ravages of the disease. He is survived by his wife of almost 60 years,
Sylvia; daughters Gail (Greg) of Alberta, Brenda (Ken) of Guelph, Patty
(Bill) of Trenton, and his son Wayne Scott of Guelph. He leaves behind
an extensive family of 10 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren.
Wayne's career expanded 30 years with the Royal Canadian Air Force, both
at home and overseas, and 18 years with Air Canada. Wayne's friends and
family will remember him as being strong-willed, determined, kind,
generous, a strong role model, as well as a caring and loving protector.
Wayne was a community-minded individual who served Beavers and Scouts
Canada as a leader for many years; he volunteered as a Sunday school
teacher early on; he was a volunteer radio broadcaster in Lahr, Germany;
he was 1st and 2nd Vice President, President and Membership Chair for
the Lions Club, he was a recipient of the Melvin Jones Fellowship. Most
recently he was honoured by Rotary International for all his community
service over the years. Wayne's Celebration of Life will take place in
the Spring at a date to be decided by family depending on the
restrictions placed by COVID-19 protocols. Family requests donations be
made to Diabetes Canada.
