KURTZ, Doreen Katherine

Doreen was notoriously late, but she decided to make an early entrance into heaven for her 86th birthday on July 20th. 

She passed away peacefully at Wellington Terrace, Fergus, on Sunday, July 2, 2017. Doreen K. (nee Waechter) Kurtz was the beloved wife of Gerald (Gerry) Kurtz for 63 years. Doreen was the dear mother of Trudy (Joseph Pavia), Lois (Michael Ingram), Lorna (John Comacchio), Mary Lisa (Rob Mitchell) and Tara (Morris KurtzFavero). Doreen is survived by her grandchildren Oliver, Johanna; Carly, Hailey; Blaire (Stephen Schoettler), Brenna; Clayton, Hayden; Mia, Brock and Clark; and by her new great-granddaughter Lila. 

She was predeceased by her parents Minnie (nee Bruder) and Charles Waechter and by her siblings Edward (Marie) Waechter, Frank (Frances) Waechter, Jean Gosse, Viola (Rupert) Zinger and Dorothy (Alfred) Zinger. 

Friends are invited to meet with the family at Hart Chapel, 1099 Gordon St., Guelph, on Wednesday, July 5, 2017 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. A Vigil for Doreen will be held at the funeral home on Wednesday at 8:30 p.m. The Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Joseph’s Church, 409 Paisley Rd., Guelph, on Thursday, July 6, 2017 at 10:30 a.m. Interment, Marymount Cemetery, Guelph. As expressions of sympathy, donations to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Ontario or to a charity of one’s choice would be appreciated by the family. Special thanks to the caring staff at Wellington Terrace who looked after Doreen with love and compassion for over 13 years. 

Known for her immeasurable spirit and warmth, we will remember Doreen as a vibrant and outgoing woman who could strike up a conversation with a stranger better than most could with a friend.
