June 1, 1933 to May 24, 2017

Dr. Robert Linton was born and raised in Windsor. He graduated in medicine at the University of Western Ontario in 1959 and, following his internships in London and Hamilton, began a country practice in Mount Brydges for two years. In 1963 he then commenced postgraduate specialization in anaesthesia in London. He established his anaesthetic practice in Guelph in 1967 after achieving his certificate from the American Board of Anesthesiology and his Canadian certification from the Royal College. As a member of the Wellington County Medical Society, he became a delegate to the Ontario Medical Association (OMA) Council for many years. He served for nine years on the Tariff and Executive Committees of the Section on Anaesthesia and was the Chairman in 1984-85. In Guelph, he has been Chief of Anaesthesia at both St. Joseph’s and Guelph General Hospitals for over thirteen years and served as President of the Medical Staff at the Guelph General from 1992-1995. His ultimate aim in conjunction with the principles of the OMA and its Section on Anaesthesia has been to bring an anaesthetic standard of care of the highest quality to the Guelph community. On retiring from active anaesthesia at the Guelph General he provided anaesthetics for patients at the Homewood Hospital, retiring in 2008. Robert was also an active member with other Guelph communities including the Country Club and Westminister-St. Paul’s Presbyterian Church where he served as Elder from 1978 to 1998.

He leaves behind his wife, Evelyn, after having just celebrated 58 years of marriage; his son Cameron (Janet) and Douglas (Susan); four grandchildren: Laura, Owen, Kate, and Charles; a sister Margery; and extended family.
