1927-2022

After recently celebrating her 95th birthday, Betty MacGregor, passed away peacefully in Guelph, on December 31, 2022, with family by her side.  Betty’s kindness and ability to see the beauty in everything was an inspiration not only to her large clan of kids, grandkids and great grandkids but to everyone she met. That spirit of caring and giving extended to the community where she helped so many through her volunteer work at the Guelph General Hospital, her work as Treasurer for the Canadian Ladies Curling Association and many other acts of kindness and generosity to all those she met along the way.

Betty was the loving wife for 63 years of the late Murray (2014). Mother of Janice Robertson (Dave), Bob (Pat), Anita Nunn (Bob), Lisa (Jeff) and the late Scott (1999) (Raquel). Much loved Nana for grandchildren Alicia, Greg, Gordon, Douglas, Kari, Garrett, Bridget, Jessica, the late David (2013) and nine great-grandchildren. Sister of the late Bill Cox and his late wife Jessie Mae of Sarnia.

Few Canadians knew this country better than Betty as she travelled to every part of it across 60 years when her husband Murray was on summer break from his professorship at the University of Guelph. Starting with a tent trailer and 5 kids in tow, she made lifelong friends coast-to-coast with her warm smile and lots of laughter. If you said a town or a campsite, she knew it. Her travels included moving her home and five children to a century manor in Edinburgh, Scotland for a year when Murray took a teaching position at the University. Their love of curling led to many new life-long Scottish friends. Later, their fifth wheel trailer made its way to Texas, with their beloved dogs, for many warm winters surrounded by friends and visiting family.

Betty’s spirit of seeing the best in everything and everyone will leave a hole in the lives of her family, her community, and the many friends that Betty and Murray gathered over the years.

The family is very appreciative that someone so kind was so lovingly cared for by many thoughtful caregivers in her later years.

Cremation has taken place, a private graveside committal will be held at Woodlawn Memorial Park, Guelph. A celebration of her life will be held at the Guelph Country Club 133 Woodlawn Road East, on Saturday, January 28th from 1 to 4 p.m. hosted by the family.

Arrangements entrusted to Gilchrist Chapel McIntyre & Wilkie Funeral Home, One Delhi Street, Guelph (519-824-0031). We invite you to leave your memories and donations online at: www.gilchristchapel.com and they will be forwarded to the family.
