It is with great sadness to announce the passing of Kathleen Moore on
August 20, 2021, at Guelph General Hospital at the age of 93. She is
predeceased by the love of her life of 53 years, Kenneth (2003) and her
son Kevin (2014).

Kathleen was born on May 1, 1928, alongside her identical twin Dorothy
at their family home on Bradshaw Street in Derby England, daughters of
the late Charles Clyde Savory and Clara Illsley. Along with Dorothy, she
had four older sisters, Molly, Evelyn, Margret, and Betty, all
predeceased.

Kathleen attended Traffic and Reginald Street schools before going to
work at Derby Cables factory on Mansfield Road at the young age of 14.
She worked alongside Dorothy, where they both eventually met their
future husbands. There are many stories about Kath and Dot during this
time. These stories brought many happy memories, especially the one
where Dot and Harry Bailey (later to become Dots husband), played
matchmaker between Ken and Kath. The story had a happy ending with Ken
and Kath’s wedding taking place on January 28, 1950.

Their first son, Kevin was born in Derby in 1957. They traveled about on
a motorcycle with Kath holding Kevin sitting in the sidecar. By 1958,
they decided to cross the Atlantic to start a new beginning in Canada.
Her sister Betty and her family had already made the journey and she was
relieved to know she would have family there. They made the journey by
passenger ship, on the Cunard Line’s Sylvania on June 17, 1958. They
traveled with only the necessities, including blankets and Ken’s tools.
Kevin took his first steps on this journey.

They first settled in Malton, Ontario, and they worked hard to get their
lives on track and at times holding two jobs. Ken would work all day at
Hilroy Stationary, come home and then head back out with Kath and Kevin
in her arms to clean offices in the evenings. Whilst it was hard work,
we never heard them complain about the journey they did together to
start their new lives in Canada. Whilst in Malton, Kevin finally got his
wish, a little brother in 1963 named Keith.

In 1966 they moved to Peterborough and then on to Lakefield in 1968.
Once they moved to Lakefield, Kath worked at the local private hospital
assisting residents in long term care. She made many friends whilst
working at the Private hospital and remembered her days there fondly.

Ken and Kath loved the village of Lakefield. They took long walks
together through the village and along the Trent Canal during the
evenings, stopping to talk to friends and neighbors along the way.

One of Kath’s hobbies was knitting. She took great pride in knitting
blankets, gloves and toque’s for family and friends. If she knew you had
or were having a baby, you knew the knitting needles were in production!
She loved her grandchildren and spending time doing activities with
them.

She also loved travelling to visit her son wherever he was with the
military and visiting all the family and friends back home in Derby.
These trips were very special and always generated great stories and
laughter at the Chaddesden Jubilee Club. There was always a round of
bingo, and the games were played alongside her sisters Ev and Dot. One
particular trip home was more so memorable - A surprise trip to spend
her 80th birthday with her twin Dot. Keith was able to fly his mum home,
whilst Dot’s son
Trevor and wife Denise were preparing a surprise party for them. She was
so happy to see so many friends and extended family from both her and
Ken’s family that came to celebrate with them.

Following the passing of Ken, Kath eventually decided to move to Guelph.
She took up residence at Parkside Place at The Village of Riverside
Glen. Kath soon made friends and spoke fondly of coffee/tea mornings,
movie nights, sing alongs and she even participated in the occasional
bowling Wii game. She loved the community atmosphere. She appreciated
all the friendships she made there and was especially thankful to Helga,
Fred and Lorraine for their support when she needed help.

She enjoyed her Saturday shopping trips with her son and attending local
events in Guelph.
Whilst living in Guelph, she continued to remain connected to Lakefield,
reading the local news in the Lakefield Herald and by making the
occasional trip there to meet up with friends. She has fond memories of
her breakfast mornings with Bob and Dorothy, Dave and Joy and Carol and
Peter.

She loved catching up with other neighbors too on Caroline Street.

In her later years, she moved over to the village, when she needed more
assistance. We are especially thankful for all the caregivers who
supported her in the Village of Riverside Glen. The family would like to
thank all the staff, nurses, and PSWs for their care, kindness and
understanding while Kath resided in Williamsburg West and later Emma’s
wing. She had many friends and the compassion shown for my mother was
greatly appreciated. We also would like to thank Dr. Courtney Bell for
all her support, care and compassion for Kath over the last several
years. She showed exemplary care and attention to Kath’s well-being and
did so with honesty, humor and compassion.

A loving Mother to her sons’ Kevin (predeceased) (Annette) and Keith
(Gail). A loving Grandmother to her grandchildren Kirsten (Derek),
Spencer and Elise. A loving Aunty to her nieces and nephews along with
their families – Gail (predeceased), Shirley (predeceased), Linda
(predeceased), Faye (Symen), Trevor (Denise), Roger (Jenny,
predeceased), Nicolas, Pat, Mick, Steve, David, Peter and Christopher
(predeceased). She loved keeping in touch and visiting with Ken’s
extended family Tim (Celia), Brenda (Bernie), Edward (Maureen) and
Monica along with their families and friend Eleanor.

In accordance with Kath’s wishes, cremation has taken place. Interment
at the Woodlawn Cemetery for her to rest beside the love of her life Ken
will be determined at later date for close friends and family.
In lieu of flowers, if so desired, the family welcomes memorial
contributions be made in Kathleen’s honour to the Guelph Wellington
Seniors Association at www.gwsa-guelph.ca or to the Community Care
Peterborough, specifically the Lakefield office at www.commcareptbo.org
would be greatly appreciated.
