Morrison Maureen MM

April 1, 1936 – January 17, 2022

It is with profound sadness that the family of Maureen announces her peaceful passing on January 17th, 2022 at the Guelph General Hospital.

Born in Bellshill, Scotland, Maureen emigrated with her family to Canada in 1953. She will be greatly missed by her children, Kimberley (Gord) Swanson, Leslie Morrison, Geoffrey Morrison, Stephen (Claudia Luddemann) Morrison, Marcia (Maarten) Jansen and Sandra (Jon Savage) Morrison. She was a devoted grandmother to Benjamin (Heather), Hilary (Brandon Lyn) and Erik (Andrea Farkas) Swanson, Alasdair (Elena Copeland) and Colin Dooley, Owen and Abigail Jansen, Daniel and Nyomi Savage and Nicolas Morrison. Maureen was delighted with her three great-granddaughters, Penelope, and Cecila Swanson and Elodie Lyn. Maureen is survived by her brothers John and William (Betty) Lynch. Maureen was predeceased by her loving husband of 52 years, Bryce Morrison (2009) and her siblings Felix Lynch, Kathleen Laughlin, and Margaret Henneberry. Maureen devoted her life to raising her six children who stayed close to her throughout her life.

During her successful real estate career, Maureen made many lasting friendships with her colleagues. Maureen enjoyed her Beta Sigma Phi sorority sisters for over 50 years and had fond memories of her tennis and bridge club days.

Maureen’s family wishes to thank Chartwell Wellington Park where mom was very happy for the last nine months. More recently we wish to thank the staff of 4W at the Guelph General Hospital where mom received excellent care for the last three weeks of her life. Thanks also to Taylor Young of Wall Custance Funeral Home for his help. Cremation has taken place. A private celebration of life for Maureen will be held this summer.

In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be made to the Alzheimer’s Society of Canada or the Guelph General Hospital Foundation.

When I come to the end of the road,
And the sun has set for me,
I want no tears or gloom filled room.
Why cry for a soul set free?
Miss me a little, but not for long,
And not with your head bowed low.
Remember the love we all shared,
Miss me but let me go.

-   From Christine Georgina Rossetti  -

A tree will be planted in memory of Maureen Morrison in the Wall-Custance Memorial Forest.
