With great sadness we announce the passing of our beloved father, Francis Hilary O’Brien on June 30, 2017. Born and raised in New Waterford, Nova Scotia, Frank served with the RCAF during WWII, where, in England, he met his future bride, our mother, Iris Mottram (predeceased, 1992). Returning to Canada and eventually settling in Guelph, Ontario, in 1959, Iris and Frank enjoyed a long and happy marriage raising their 8 children, Maureen (Charlie), Peter (Mary), Geoffrey (Ginny), Christopher(predeceased, 2012) (and his surviving wife, Sheri), Kevin (Debbie), David (Marlene), Cynthia (David) and Michael (Michelle). Utilizing his various skills as a Stationary Engineer, Frank forged a very successful career, ultimately as Maintenance Supervisor at Imperial Tobacco in Guelph, where he earned the respect and friendship of many employees. Before and after his retirement in 1983, he was an avid bridge player, traveller, reader, golfer, and curler with the Guelph Curling Club. All who knew him well will miss his keen wit and sense of humour, not to mention his kind and caring heart. Aside from his children, he is survived by 22 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren. Our sincere thanks go out to the staff at Riverside Glen for their hardworking and continual support during our father’s stay.

A Funeral Mass will be held at St. John’s Church, 45 Victoria Rd. N., Guelph, on Friday, July 7th, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Heart and Stroke Foundation or to a charity of one’s choice would be appreciated. Cards are available at the funeral home (519-822-4731)
