O'HALLORAN, Henrietta (Hetty)-- (nee Shields)

Posted

June 3, 1931 - March 13, 2017

Peacefully at St. Joseph's Healthcare Centre, Guelph, a Scottish Piper and Band of Angels welcomed Heaven's newest Angel. Born in Renfrew, Scotland, Hetty was predeceased by her loving husband Edward James (Ted) O'Halloran (2014). She was the cherished Mother of Joanne Marie O'Halloran and her husband Michael Bukeman, the precious Gran to Derek, Brendan and Jimmy O'Halloran and the beloved sister-in-law of Michael J. O'Halloran and his wife Sandra. Hetty was a sister of May, Helen, John and Robert Shields.

Hetty devoted her life to giving to and passionately advocating for others who could not help themselves. Her unconditional love was given to family, friends, animals, children and strangers. After nursing at the Hospital for Sick Children in Toronto, Hetty worked tirelessly for the Catholic Children's Aid at Villa Marie. Here, unwanted and abandoned children flourished under her loving care. Hetty taught at Rotary and Champlain School for the profoundly handicapped where those whom society deemed 'exceptional' were given love and acceptance. The greater joy, Hetty would tell you, was the love she received back a hundred-fold from her special kids. She was an ardent animal activist and believed in the value of all living things. Hetty spent her time here 'paying it forward' in countless ways. Rest easy in God's arms Mum, give Dad a big hug and kiss from me. You are forever remembered and eternally loved. I trust in what you always told me, "I'll always be with you and love you...just on another level."

The family is grateful to Dr. Richard Helyar and Dr. H. Gilani and to the late Dr. Barry Ehrlich. Blessings and thanks to Father V. Boyd and Holy Rosary Parish. Special appreciation for the compassionate and loving care given by all staff at St Joseph’s Health Care Centre, especially to all the great people on Cherrywood Lane and Simon and Margherita of Spiritual Care.
