Monika was the beloved wife of the late Roy H. Palmer (November 1, 2017).

Survived by her sister Ellen Ehlers of Kelowna, B.C. Loving Oma to Lauren, William, Justin, Colton, Brock, Jacqui, Keri, Jeremy, Shannon, Shaun, Amanda, Nicole, Kristen and to great grandchildren Mackenzie, Kasen, Ashton, Lachlan. Monika will be missed by nieces Patricia Trueman (Tim), Sabrina (Ron), nephews Bruce Walker, Larry Palmer (Sheri), Glen Palmer (Tracey), Mark Filatow (Deepa), Jason Filatow and many good friends.

Monika began her life in Germany and made her way over to Canada on a ship when she was only 6 years old.  She grew up in Mississauga enjoying her time with her parents and sister.  She preferred to spend time outside with her father, tinkering with cars, but then grew her passion for gardening and crafting.  Those who knew her would know that her home was adorned with elaborate macramé creations and flower arrangements. Monika met Roy and they were married in 1970, moved from Mississauga to Guelph in 1992, and spent 47 beautiful years together.  She started off working in a bank, then dedicated herself to raising her children, and eventually moved on to working with her husband in book-keeping.  Together they traveled to the Dominican and other islands to enjoy fun in the sun on their own, with family, and with close friends.

Monika was an organizer and loved family gatherings and good times at many July 1st BBQ’s.  She had a passion for dance and took any opportunity to swing her hips and sing with her beautiful voice, including dinner and dancing evenings with Roy and jukebox moments at Riverside.  She was also known for her perfected recipes for spaghetti sauce, and her unmistakable Italian and Caesar Salad dressings.

Special thanks to the doctors and nursing staff at the Guelph General for their care and efforts to keep her comfortable. Also, many warm thanks to the long-term care staff at The Village of Riverside Glen for their love and support over the last 7 years.

Cremation has taken place. A Celebration of Monika's Life will take place on October 26th, 2022 at 1pm at the Puslinch Community Centre in the Archie MacRobbie Hall located at 23 Brock Road South in Guelph. Arrangements entrusted to the WALL-CUSTANCE FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL 519-822-0051 / www.wallcustance.com.

As expressions of sympathy, donations to the Guelph Humane Society, Alzheimer Society, or a charity of your choice would be appreciated by the family.
