Poitevin Joan MM

(August 30, 1925- August 2, 2018) Passed away peacefully late in her 93rd year. Predeceased by her loving husband Danny (2003) and her cherished son Michael (2017). Survived and loved by her sons David (Rosemary) and Steven (Franka) and her daughters Carol (Brian) and Susan (Mike), Michael’s wife Susan Byron, 15 grandchildren and 12 great grand children. Loved and missed by many more.

Joan was born in Winnipeg and then spent her early years in Vancouver. During WW2 she served in the R.C.A.F. as a wireless operator. Towards the end of the war, she met her beloved Danny who served as a navigator in the R.C.A.F. They married shortly thereafter living briefly in Montreal before returning to Vancouver where she and Danny began raising their young family.

The family moved to Sudbury in 1961 where many longstanding and special friendships were made. Joan spent her final eight years living in Guelph in the loving home of her daughter Carol and her son in law Brian.

Joan will be remembered for her many special attributes. She was very kind and welcoming to everyone. She was a great cook and had a very special sense of humour. She loved people and was loved in return. For a number of years Joan taught at Cambrian College in the E.S.L. program. She was a devoted member of St. Patrick’s Parish in Sudbury. Joan was a wonderful mother, grandmother, great grandmother and friend.

Special thanks to St. Joseph Community Outreach services which included the Out ’N About Program, the Day Program and the Overnight Respite Program. Their love and compassion given to our dear Joan during her visits was outstanding and will not be forgotten.

Donations to St. Joseph’s Health Centre Community Outreach services would be appreciated. sjhcg.ca
