Sarah “Sadie” Raddie (nee Lynch), 99 years old, passed away peacefully on March 18, 2018 in Guelph, Ontario.
Born in Glasgow, Scotland on December 6, 1918, Sadie was married to the late Joseph Raddie (1996) for over 50 years. Joe also grew up in Glasgow, but emigrated to Canada as a teenager. The two reconnected when Joe was serving as a Lance-Corporal with a Canadian Casualty Clearing Station in the Second World War. The two were married in 1945, and Sadie emigrated to Ontario as a War Bride.
An optimistic and fun-loving card player who enjoyed music, parties, Coronation Street and the Toronto Blue Jays, Sadie dearly loved her family and many friends. She exhibited care, unconditional love, tenacity, and grace even in her final days. Sadie’s laughter and kindness will be sadly missed.
Sadie is survived by her daughter, Jo-Anne Rippin (Brian) of Dartmouth, NS; son, Don Raddie (Sheila) of Freelton, ON; Grandchildren, Karie Rippin Bilger (Scott), Michelle Rippin (Scott), Andrew Raddie, Nikki Gregory (Scott), David Raddie (Michelle); Great-Grandchildren, Rebecca, Jack, Adam, Sienna, Austin, Dylan, Madison, Henry and Patrick.
Sadie is preceded in death by her husband Joe; brothers, Matthew and James, their spouses; and Joe’s five siblings and their spouses.
Cremation has taken place. A celebration of Sadie’s life will take place on Saturday, April 28, 2018 at 10:00am in The Elliott Community Centre, 170 Metcalfe Street, Guelph Ontario. The family of Sadie Raddie wishes to thank the staff at the Elliott Community (especially Paisley Neighbourhood and The Ellington Retirement) for their loving care. Much gratitude to extended family and close friends whose visits and support greatly enhanced Sadie’s quality of life over the past couple of years.
One of Sadie’s special pleasures in recent months were her weekly Music Therapy sessions. Memorial donations may be made to the Music Therapy Programs at either The Elliott Community or St. Joseph’s Health Centre Guelph.
A tree will be planted in memory of Sarah (Sadie) Raddie in the Wall-Custance Memorial Forest, University of Guelph Arboretum. Dedication service, Sunday, September 16, 2018 at 2:30 pm.
