Sande Helen Photo

Helen passed away peacefully at the Elliott Community on July 11, 2022, at the age of 92. Beloved wife of the late William “Bill” Sande (2016). Loving mother of Andrew (Margaret), Anne Mann (Clifford) all of Lucknow, Marie Sande of Toronto, the late Philip Sande, and Eleanor (Jean) of Montreal. Proud grandmother of 9 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren. Dear sister of Max (Dierdre) of Ilderton and the late Stuart (Jocelyn) and Margorie Charlton (Meredith).

Born and raised in Ilderton, she maintained close ties to her family throughout her life. She obtained her teaching qualifications at Normal School and taught in a one room school house before returning to school.  She graduated from the University of Western Ontario in Secretarial Sciences and met Bill when working at Imperial Oil in Sarnia.  She continued to teach high school part time for some years while raising her family.

Helen and Bill celebrated over 60 years of marriage. They raised their family and made good friends wherever they were - be it Toronto, Edmonton, Sarnia or at the "the farm" during many summers and weekends. Later in life, they moved to Guelph to be closer to their family.

Helen loved light, music, literature, the performing arts, gardening, travel, writing and playing bridge.  She organized many games, sing-a-longs and euchre tournaments at family and social gatherings.  She had a curious and open mind.  She was a proud member of the University Women's Club of Toronto where she served as president for several years.

Helen will be remembered as a mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, as well as a sister, aunt, friend and neighbor who cherished many lifelong friendships.
