Of Guelph, passed away peacefully, with his family by his side, at Hospice Wellington on Friday, July 12, 2019, in his 66th year. Loved father of Jason Shields and Mickeline Stangherlin (Joshua). Loving grandfather of Mateo, Audriana, Ashley and Samuel. Dear brother of Ernie Shields (Evelyn). Brother in law of Pat Shields.
Predeceased by his brothers Melvin, Alex, Robert, Brian and by his parents Robert and Agnes Shields. Doug will also be missed by many nieces, nephews and friends.
The family extends a heartfelt thank you to the staff of the LHIN Home and Community care, and to Hospice Wellington for their exceptional care.
A memorial gathering to celebrate Doug’s life will be held at the WALL-CUSTANCE FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL, 206 Norfolk St., Guelph on Wednesday, July 24, 2019 from 7-9 pm. Memorial contributions to the Hospice Wellington would be appreciated.
A tree will be planted in memory of Douglas W. Shields in the Wall-Custance Memorial Forest, University of Guelph Arboretum. Dedication service, Sunday, September 15, 2019 at 2:30 pm.
