(1926 -2016) – Passed away peacefully on Monday, November 21, 2016 at Caressant Care Nursing Home, Harriston in his 91styear. He was the adopted son of Peter and Annie Smart who were long-time residents of West Luther Township. He is predeceased by his loving wife Irene Smart (nee Lamb, 2005). Cherished father of Eric (Nora) and Randy (Nancy). Loved grandfather of Lisa (Christopher), Daniel, Emily and William. Survived by his sister Verna Black (Smart). Predeceased by his mother Maude Noble (Bailey, 2002). Brother to Lyle, Glen , Bernice Taylor (Noble) , Murray, Fred, Earle and Melvin Noble. He enjoyed a good life with all of his family members. Eric served with the Royal Canadian Air Force and the Infantry Corps. He was a life member of Centennial Masonic Lodge 684 of London and was a life member of the Colonel John McCrae Memorial Branch 234 of The Royal Canadian Legion.
Friends will be received at the WALL-CUSTANCE FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL, 206 Norfolk St., Guelph one hour prior to the memorial service which will be held in the funeral home chapel on Monday, November 28, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. Reception to follow in the Wall-Custance Family Reception Centre. A Colonel John McCrae Memorial Branch 234 Legion Service will be held at 10:30 a.m. at the funeral home. Memorial contributions to the Guelph Poppy Trust Fund would be appreciated.
A tree will be planted in memory of Eric Smart in the Wall-Custance Memorial Forest, University of Guelph Arboretum. Dedication service, Sunday, September 17, 2017 at 2:30 pm.
