TIESSEN, Marjorie Stewart (nee Simpson)

Posted

On June 28th, 2018, in her 92ndyear, at West Park Long-Term Care Home in Toronto.  She was the beloved wife to the late Dr. Herman Tiessen (1987), cherished mother to James Herman (Yoko Osuka) and Mary Elizabeth (Jeffrey Stringer) and the proud grandmother to Sayaka and Kyoko Tiessen and Levi and Amy Stringer.

Marjorie was the daughter of the late James Simpson (1950) and Mabel Stewart Simpson (1954) and sister to Amy Clark McMahon (2008).

Marjorie - usually "Marj" - was a life member of Knox Presbyterian Church, Guelph where she was one of the church’s first two woman elders. She also was a 1948 B Graduate of the Hamilton General Hospital. She enjoyed volunteering at the Guelph General Hospital, the Village by the Arboretum (Guelph) and at her church. Marj enthusiastically embraced new challenges, such as swimming lessons in her 40's, sign language in her 70's, and active engagement with technologies, including her iPad, into her late 80's.  Marj was most fortunate to share her commitment to others, essential pragmatism and warm yet sharp, sense of humour with a broad range of friends and, of course, her family.

The family wishes to thank all of those who contributed to Marjorie’s life, particularly in her last years. This includes her wonderful network of friends and clinical supporters in Guelph and the caring staff both at the Village of Arbour Trails (Guelph) and West Park Long Term Care (Toronto).

Friends and family will be received from 1-2 pm on Tuesday, July 3rd at Knox Presbyterian Church, 20 Quebec Street, Guelph. Funeral service to be held at 2 pm followed by a reception at the church. Arrangements entrusted to WALL-CUSTANCE FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL, 519-822-0051
