(1935–2018) - Our dear mother, mother-in-law, and grandmother Barbara passed away peacefully on Saturday, September 15, 2018 at The Village of Arbour Trails in Guelph, ON, in her 83rd year. Beloved wife and best friend of 59 years to her late husband, Harold. Loving mother to Garth (Linda), Karen, and grandmother to David (Ludivine), John (Lucy), Pam (Steve), Lan, and Aaron. Loving sister of the late Kathleen “Kay” Sigtermans (Pete) of Hastings, Minnesota. Predeceased by her parents Janet and Louis Curtis of Winnipeg, Manitoba. In the 1950s, Barbara and Harold left Manitoba for Ontario, living in Oakville before moving to the Campbellville area with their family in the early 1970s. Barbara led a very active life playing tennis, downhill skiing, swimming, jogging, and cycling and hiking in Scotland, the U.K., and Ontario. A wonderfully talented homemaker and cook, she took great pleasure in entertaining family and friends around the dinner table. She knew how to bring people together with food, and created many memories for her friends and family that will last a lifetime. She fed her passion for music by playing the piano and organ, singing in many choirs, and was a long-time member of the village band. Loving, calm, and easy-going are just a few of the words that could be used to describe her. Barbara was always surrounded by family, and more recently also by the caring staff of Arbour Trails. The family would like to thank the PSWs, nurses, and other staff at Arbour Trails for the excellent and compassionate care they provided to Barb during her time there. Barbara considered the staff at Arbour Trails her second family. There will be a Celebration of Life reception to honour Barb from 2:30 to 4:00 p.m. on Saturday, September, 22, 2018, in the Town Hall in The Village of Arbour Trails, 32 Bayberry Drive, Guelph, Ontario (in Village by the Arboretum). In lieu of flowers, donations to Parkinson Canada (www.parkinson.ca) or another charity are welcome. Immediate family will be having a private burial. Arrangements are in care of WALL-CUSTANCE FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL
