Avila "Sue" Elizabeth Theresa van Boxmeer, nee Jamieson, was a caring Mother, Grandmother, Sister, Aunt, Great-Aunt, Friend, Volunteer and Wife. Born April 2, 1941 in Guelph, Ontario, Canada to John Jamieson and Ellen Lynch, she left this world suddenly on January 1st, 2022.
This year would have marked 55 years marriage to her loving husband Antonious "Tony" van Boxmeer. The pride of her life were her three children - John van Boxmeer (wife Lisa), Mary Jo van Boxmeer and Nancy Cramton (husband Derek) and five grandchildren (Adam and Melanie van Boxmeer, and Michael, Jonathan and Jamie Cramton).
She worked as a schoolteacher before having kids and returned to the workforce as a supply teacher before redirecting her natural caregiving strengths to work as a personal support care worker.
In her retirement she and her husband Tony played golf most days of the week... until they couldn't. She loved dogs, played in a dart league and was an avid Bid Euchre player at the Legion and with her family. She was an active member of the Catholic Women's League, volunteering many a weekend to organize and support church community events for over 40 years.
A great smile and child-like playfulness made her a hit at family get togethers when a mere half glass of wine would have her giggling. She will be missed at the regular Thursday morning coffee and get together by a long-time group of friends who have known each other for more than 50 years.
She is predeceased by six siblings: David "Red" (wife Bernice), John (wife Vera), Beatrice "Pat", Donald "Shad", and Jerome (wife Carol) Jamieson, as well as Margaret "Peggy" (husband James) Stockard. She is survived by her brother George Jamieson (wife Velma) and seven brothers-in-laws and sisters-in-law, her immediate family and over 100 nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.
There will be no visitation but friends and family are invited to attend the memorial mass at St. Joseph’s Church, 409 Paisley Road, Guelph on Saturday, January 15th, 2022 at 10 a.m. To attend, please RSVP on the funeral home website, under Sue’s obituary. For those who are not able to attend in person, the service will be live streamed and the link is available on the funeral home website.
