Of Guelph passed away peacefully at Rockwood Terrace in Durham on Saturday March 9th in her 92nd year (1927 – 2019). LaVerne and her husband owned and operated The Biltmore Restaurant on Carden Street in Guelph for many years. They served thousands of hamburgers and milkshakes and home-made pies. LaVerne was an exceptionally good cook. Following that she was a devoted worker at Hammonds Company until she retired.
Loved mother of Darlyne Rath (Merle). Cherished grandmother of Renee of California, Bob (Cathy) of Waterdown and Dave (Caralyn) of Burlington. She was a cherished great grandmother to Kaitlin, Elissa of California and Kate, Jack, Sam, Abby, Sophie and Will of Burlington and Waterdown and her one great great grandchild is Liam of California. Her sister Vera (nee Campbell) lives in Owen Sound.
Also she will be missed by many nieces and nephews and extended family and friends – most especially John Philips of Guelph who a devoted friend for 28 years.
She is predeceased by her daughter Patricia Cordobes of California and her husband George C. Vano of Guelph and her brothers Alvin Campbell (Stella) from Owen Sound and Norman Campbell. Norman’s wife Jean lives in Guelph.
A remembrance of her life will be held at the WALL-CUSTANCE FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL, 206 Norfolk St., Guelph in the funeral home chapel. Visitation will be Sunday, March 17th from 2-5 p.m. and the funeral service will be on Monday, March 18th at 11:00 a.m. Presiding at the service will her daughter Rev. Darlyne Rath. Reception to follow. Interment Woodlawn Memorial Park, Guelph.
The family requests that flowers not be sent and instead memorial contributions to the Guelph General Hospital would be appreciated.
A tree will be planted in memory of LaVerne Vano in the Wall-Custance Memorial Forest, University of Guelph Arboretum. Dedication service, Sunday, September 15, 2019 at 2:30 pm.
