von Wiedner Hans MM

Of Guelph, passed away at Guelph General Hospital on Wednesday December 29, 2021, at the age of 95.

Hans was predeceased (May 2021) by his loving wife Gudrun, of 65 years. He will be greatly missed by his family. Loving father of Achim von Wiedner (Ann), Ralph von Wiedner (Vanya) and predeceased by daughter Monique (Ian Bussey).

Loved grandfather of Jordan Cobourne, Christopher Ryan and Catherine Ryan. Hans will also be missed by his many nieces and nephews.

Hans von Wiedner was born in Germany in 1926, from a distinguished family, who’s lineage can be traced back from 1515. As a young man he emigrated from Germany to Canada in 1954. He married Gudrun (emigrated from Germany to Canada in 1955) in 1956.

Hans and Gudrun began their life modestly as a butler and maid couple for a few years, worked hard, saved and purchased land in Ariss Ontario, where they decided to stay and raise their family. At the same time as Hans tended his farm, watched his family and land thrive, Hans worked at WC Woods in Guelph, where he worked until his retirement at the age of 65.

Hans was a quiet, strong man, who enjoyed spending time with his children and grandchildren, especially if there was a game of Canasta or Rummy Cube to be had.

He also enjoyed reading and conversing about the history of Germany and Europe. His well-organized mind could share dates, names and events with enviable accuracy.

We will miss the twinkle in his eye and his gentle smile, as he shared the love of his family, whenever there was a cherished get together. His faith allowed Hans to confidently move on to the next chapter, free of pain and limitations. He will be missed but not forgotten.

Warm thanks for the gentle, kind care of the Step Down Unit (5th floor), Guelph General Hospital.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Guelph General Hospital.
