With heavy hearts we announce the passing of our dear mother, Madeline Wenman, who passed away peacefully at The Village of Riverside Glen on August 16 at age 100.

Beloved wife of the late John Wenman (2007). Devoted mother to Robert, James (Lynn), Richard (Bev) and Christopher (Alison). Caring grandmother to Nathan (Alicia).

Predeceased by her dear sister, Kathleen, she will be greatly missed by her niece Madeleine, nephews Richard, John (Sally) Ludlow and John (Val) Byng.

Born in Bristol, England, Madeline learned from a young age the value of hard work, leaving school to help support the family and at the same time driven to follow her destiny in nursing. Wartime brought unexpected joy in meeting her Canadian RAF husband, John, with whom she moved to Canada in 1949 to start a family while continuing her career. Serving as head nurse at Guelph General Hospital and then plant nurse at Canadian General Electric while taking on key roles for the Ontario Occupational Health Nurses Association, The Lung Association, and the IODE.

Madeline shared a long and happy life with John and, in retirement, enjoyed trips to Hawaii and Bermuda then yearly stays on the BC coast.

Mum was a pillar of strength, compassion and dignity and taught us all to be kind. She had a remarkable life.

The family extends the greatest thanks to the staff at the Village of Riverside Glen where Madeline lived and made many friends over her last years.

A funeral will be held on Monday August 22 at the Church of the Apostles (formerly St. James), 86 Glasgow St., Guelph. Condolences can be received at 9:30 am with a service at 10 am. Small reception to follow. For livestream viewing please go to www.apostlesguelph.org
