Jennifer (Jenny) Barr Whiteside departed this world January 5, 2023 peacefully with her children by her side. Born July 20, 1942 in Liverpool UK, Jenny arrived in her beloved Canada in August of 1953. Teen years were spent in Montreal at Macdonald High School and Macdonald College (McGill University) where she gained a teaching diploma and a fiancé.
Jenny and Davis Mackie Barr were married June 1963 and settled on a mixed farm in Vanleek Hill, Ontario. 1964 saw the birth of David Patrick followed by Erica Fay in 1965. The family moved to the Guelph area in 1968 and built a log house just north of Acton and Rockwood, running a small horse farm. Jenny started a career as a country columnist and feature writer with the Acton Free Press expanding the job to several southern Ontario weeklies. Later in the 1980’s when Mack and Jenny had divorced, she spent the decade selling real estate and traveling back and forth to Jamaica.
Settling back in Guelph in 1992 Jenny became a grandmother to Shannon Fay Archer, Meaghan Danielle Barr (Zach McCulligh) and Adam David Barr (Tanara Bowden), later joined by great grandson Logan Joshua Archer.
She is survived by her grandchildren and children, son Pat Barr, daughter-in-law Cathy Barr, daughter Erica Bentley, son-in-law Dion MacArthur.
Cremation has taken place. Memorial contributions to the Guelph Humane Society would be appreciated.
