$10,000 worth of merchandise stolen from Old Quebec Street Mall

On Nov. 22, 2018, Guelph Police began an investigation into a break and enter into a business at the Old Quebec Street Mall. An estimated $10,000 worth of merchandise was stolen. Through security video, police were able to identify the responsible party.

On Nov. 23, 2018, Guelph Police were notified that the male was in the Old Quebec Street Mall and located him in the stairwell. Richard Austin, 39-year-old Guelph male, was arrested for break and enter. When police searched Austin, they located several items that did not belong to him, as well as approximately $800 worth of what is believed to be methamphetamine.

Austin was further charged with breaching his probation, possession of stolen property, possession of an identity document, and possession of a controlled substance. Austin appeared in court on Nov. 24, 2018.
