14-year-old charged with vehicle theft

While investigating the theft of a bicycle, the accused was found in possession of the keys to a stolen vehicle

On Aug. 5, 2020, the Guelph Police Service responded to the report of a bicycle theft from a residence on Brombell Drive in the City of Guelph. The theft was captured on security video and Police were able to identify the suspect. A warrant for arrest was issued.

On Aug. 8, 2020 at approximately 12:10 a.m., Guelph Police located the suspect near the intersection of Quebec Street and Wyndham Street in Downtown Guelph. The suspect fled from Police on foot and after a brief chase the suspect was taken into custody. During a search of the accused incident to arrest, Police located a set of keys to a Chevrolet motor vehicle. Further investigation revealed that the keys belonged to a vehicle reported stolen from a Guelph residence on July 7, 2020. Police then located this stolen vehicle on Suffolk Street, Guelph.

A 14-year-old youth has been charged with theft under $5,000, theft over $5,000, possession of property obtained by crime under $5,000, escape lawful custody, and fail to comply with an undertaking. The youth was held for a bail hearing.
