17-year-old charged with driving more than twice the speed limit

On Feb. 19, 2020 at approximately 12 p.m., a Wellington County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) officer was monitoring traffic on the Hanlon Expressway in the City of Guelph. The officer observed a silver sedan travelling above the posted 80 km/h speed limit. The vehicle was locked on radar in excess of 165 km/h.

As a result, a 17-year-old from Waterdown has been charged with racing a motor vehicle contrary to the Highway Traffic Act and is scheduled to appear in the Ontario court of justice - Guelph on May 6, 2020.

The defendant's vehicle and driver's licence were seized for a period of seven days as per statute.
