Male seriously injured after fall in Elora Gorge

CENTRE WELLINGTON — On Monday June 19, 2017 at approximately 5:15 p.m. Wellington County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP), Guelph-Wellington Emergency Medical Services (EMS) and the Centre Wellington Fire Department were dispatched to attend the Elora Gorge in the area behind a private residence on Geddes St., in Elora.

Investigation has revealed that four youths were hiking in the gorge and at approximately 5 p.m. attempted to climb out of the gorge. The males were able to climb approx. 50-60 feet above the river bed to the top of the gorge. They then realized that they were onto residential property and decided to climb back down. Almost immediately after starting their descent one of the youths, a 20-year-old male, slipped and fell to the bottom.

Emergency services responded and numerous Centre Wellington Fire Department personnel were able to extricate the male using ropes and a stretcher. He was transported by air ambulance to St. Michaels Hospital in Toronto with life threatening injuries.

The Wellington County OPP is asking anyone that may have witnessed this incident to please call 1-888-310-1122.
