Guelph police are investigating after more than $40,000 worth of tools and equipment were reported stolen from a local construction site on the east side of town.

On Friday morning police were called to a site near Watson Parkway North and Eastview Road. Sometime overnight suspects had entered the site and broken into a trailer and storage container. A large number of tools and pieces of equipment were stolen, including a trailer-mounted generator valued at approximately $38,000.

The generator was tracked via GPS and later Friday was recovered on a trail in Cambridge. A black Ford pickup was seen in the area at the time and took off when police attempted to pull it over. The pickup -- described as an older model F-150 with a chrome grille -- bore licence plates which are on the provincial database as missing.

The incident remains under investigation. Anyone with information is asked to call Detective Constable Syed Ali of the Guelph Police Service General Investigations and Special Projects Unit at 519-824-1212, ext. 7145, email him at [email protected], leave an anonymous message for Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 (TIPS) or leave an anonymous tip online at www.csgw.tips.
