55-year-old Brampton man clocked at 50 km/h over speed limit

Faces racing charges, costs from a seven-day impound of his vehicle

On Wednesday, Sept. 12, 2018 at approximately 9:17 p.m., a Wellington County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) officer was monitoring traffic and conducting radar on the Hanlon Expressway near Laird Road in the City of Guelph. 

The officer observed a male driving a grey sport utility vehicle northbound at a speed that appeared to be well above the posted 80 km/h speed limit. The vehicle was locked on radar in excess of 130 km/h.

Fifty-three-year-old Mathivannan Mahalingam of Brampton has been charged with racing a motor vehicle contrary to the Highway Traffic Act and is scheduled to appear in Guelph Provincial Court on Oct. 17, 2018. His driver's licence and vehicle were seized for a period of seven days as per statute.
