87-year-old Guelph woman dies after highway collision

HAMILTON — Officers from the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP), Highway Safety Division (HSD) – Burlington Detachment, are investigating a two vehicle collision that resulted in fatal injuries.

On Wednesday, September 21, 2016, at approximately 12:09 p.m., a transport truck was travelling northbound on Highway 6 approaching the intersection of Carlisle Road in the City of Hamilton, Ontario. At the same time a sport utility vehicle (SUV) was westbound on Carlisle Road entering Highway 6 when the two vehicles collided within the intersection.

There were three occupants in the SUV, all were transported to hospital with serious injuries. The driver of the SUV, an 87-year-old female from Guelph, Ontario, died in the hospital. The driver of the transport truck was not injured. The name of the deceased will not be released until notification of next of kin is complete.

The OPP Traffic Support Unit is assisting with the investigation. The northbound lanes of Highway 6 were closed for the investigation. Any witnesses of this collision are asked to contact the Burlington OPP Detachment – 905-681-2511.
