Accused in stolen truck investigation faces 20 new charges

TOWNSHIP OF GUELPH-ERAMOSA - On March 13, 2018 at approximately 5:50 p.m., members of the Wellington County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) received a report of stolen vehicle from Guelph-Nichol Town Line, Township of Guelph-Eramosa. 

Shortly thereafter, with the help of OnStar, the vehicle was disabled when the thief attempted to flee from OPP.

Twenty-year-old Dustin James Lucas of Guelph was initially held for bail and charged with flight from police, possession of stolen property over $5,000, possession of stolen property under $5,000, assault police and failing to comply with a recognizance.

With the assistance of the Wellington County Community Street Crime Unit (CSCU) Lucas faces further charges. OPP has also recovered over $40,000 in property, including two vehicles and assorted electronics. In addition to the original five charges, Lucas now faces 20 new charges:

  • Attempted assault with a weapon
  • Theft of a motor vehicle over $5,000
  • Theft under $5,000
  • Possession of stolen property under $5,000
  • Attempted theft of a motor vehicle over $5,000
  • Two counts of break and enter
  • Three counts of possession of stolen property under $5,000
  • Five counts of fraudulently using a credit card
  • Five counts of fraud under $5,000

Lucas was remanded in custody to await bail.
