A Guelph male faces impaired driving and other charges following a traffic stop Monday afternoon.

Guelph police were on patrol in the area of Raymond Street approximately 2:15 p.m. Monday and saw a vehicle parking on the street. Officers spoke to the driver and determined he was bound by a release order with a condition not to attend the Raymond Street address.

While speaking to the male, officers detected a strong odour of alcoholic beverage on his breath and noted he was unsteady on his feet and had glassy eyes.

He was arrested and returned to the police station, where testing confirmed he had more than the legal amount of alcohol in his system. Officers also determined the male had missed a court date in October for a previous impaired driving charge.

A 49-year-old Guelph male is charged with impaired operation, failing to comply with a release order and failing to attend court. He was held for a bail hearing Tuesday.
