Alleged drunk driver arrested after fleeing on foot

Guelph Police say an alleged drunk driver who ditched his car was later found hiding behind a dumpster.

Police report that on Monday at 2:52 p.m., police were dispatched to an area near the intersection of Regal Road and Woodlawn Road West after a man had reportedly just driven his vehicle into a ditch.

A short time later, police arrived at the scene, however the male had fled on foot. He was soon found hiding behind a dumpster located behind a nearby business. Police spoke with the man, he subsequently failed a breath test and was arrested.

Further investigation revealed that the male was currently prohibited from driving.

A 38-year-old St Catharines man was charged with impaired, operation of a vehicle while prohibited and driving while under suspension.

His driver’s license was suspended for 90 days and his vehicle was impounded for 45 days.

He will appear in court March 16.
