Another sleeping driver charged with impaired

Police respond to call about an erratic driver then find her asleep at the wheel

A Guelph woman faces impaired driving charges after she was found asleep in her running motor vehicle Thursday afternoon.

Guelph Police initially received a call about 4:40 p.m. about a vehicle being driven erratically in the area of Victoria Road South and Stone Road. The caller advised the vehicle was swerving in and out of its lane and twice almost hit a guardrail.

Police eventually located the vehicle in a parking lot in the area of Victoria Road North and Brant Avenue. The vehicle was running and the adult female driver was slumped over asleep. A strong odour of an alcoholic beverage was detected coming from the vehicle and an empty beer can was observed in the console. She was subsequently arrested.

A 31-year-old Guelph woman is charged with impaired driving and impaired driving – blood alcohol concentration. Her driver’s license was immediately suspended for 90 days and her vehicle impounded for seven days. The female was released and will appear in a Guelph court Feb. 16.
