Arrest made after 80-year-old victim robbed downtown

Accused approached the victim and asked to borrow a pen prior to the incident, police say

On June 3, 2020 at approximately 11:24 a.m., an 80-year-old Guelph resident was approached by an unknown male on Wyndham Street in downtown Guelph. [It is alleged that] the unknown male asked if he could borrow a pen and as the victim obliged, the male shoved the victim and removed an envelope containing cash from the victims backpack. The male then fled the scene on foot.

The Guelph Police investigation quickly identified a suspect and Police made the arrest.

A 36-year-old Guelph male has been charged with robbery and breach of probation. He will appear in Guelph Court on Sept. 15, 2020.
