A Guelph male faces robbery charges after someone armed with a knife demanded narcotics from a local business Wednesday, report Guelph police.

Just before 4 p.m. officers responded to a business in the area of Willow Road and Silvercreek Parkway North after receiving several calls about a robbery in progress. Officers arrived on scene within minutes and learned the suspect had entered a business with a knife held in the air while yelling that he wanted narcotics.

The male had fled on foot toward another nearby business before officers arrived, but he was soon located lying face-down in some nearby bushes. A further check of the area revealed a discarded knife close to where the male was seen hiding.

No product was stolen and there were no reports of physical injuries.

A 24-year-old Guelph male is charged with robbery with a weapon and breaching probation. He was held for a bail hearing Thursday.
