A Guelph male who fled from police in a stolen motor vehicle last November has been arrested.

On Nov. 29 at around 3:30 p.m., Guelph police located a stolen pickup truck at the intersection of Watson Parkway South and Dunlop Drive. The marked cruiser was stopped in front of the pickup as the officer signalled for the driver to turn the vehicle off. The driver shook his head and quickly turned and accelerated on Watson Parkway South toward York Road.

In the interest of public safety the pickup was not pursued, but officers did observe it driving through a red light at Watson Parkway and York Road. Other officers in the area observed the pickup running red lights as it continued northbound on Victoria Road North.

Officers recognized the driver and a warrant was taken out for his arrest. On Saturday police were advised the male was incarcerated at Maplehurst Correctional Complex on unrelated matters and he was arrested for the Guelph charges.

A 22-year-old Guelph male is charged with flight from police, dangerous operation, possessing stolen property over $5,000, drive without a licence and five counts of breaching probation. He will appear in a Guelph court July 16.
