A Guelph man has been arrested in a lengthy investigation into prescription frauds.

Guelph police say the investigation began in early 2022. At least 22 prescription fraud cases were discovered and it is believed there were more which went undetected. It is alleged several people working together recruited others to submit and collect fraudulent prescriptions for opioids using fake identification.

On Tuesday a 21-year-old man was arrested. A search incident to arrest revealed he was in possession of a weapon. He is charged with conspiracy to commit fraud, conspiracy to traffic in a controlled substance, making a false document, possessing a weapon for a dangerous purpose and carrying a concealed weapon.

The investigation is ongoing.
