Arrest warrant issued after multiple related thefts

Since May 6, 2018, the Guelph Police Service has been investigating several theft incidents involving the same male. On May 6, 2018 Guelph police received a report of stolen licence plates. On May 7, 2018, police were called to an Imperial Road North address for a report of a gas drive-off. The vehicle involved in that theft was identified as having the licence plates that was reported stolen.

On May 8, 2018, police were called to two related thefts. One was at a north end hardware store, where investigation alleges the same vehicle as the gas drive-off was involved as well as the same suspect. The second was at a west end hardware store, where the same suspect was involved. Furthermore, investigation revealed the same suspect was responsible for a theft at the west end hardware store on April 23, 2018.

Investigation eventually led to the identification of the suspect. On May 17, 2018 police located the suspect at a location on McCorkindale Place. Residents of the area may have noted an increased police presence in the area. Police contained the residence that the suspect was in and received judicial authorization to enter for the purposes of arresting him. At 9:35 p.m., the suspect, a 34-year-old Guelph male, was arrested and charged with four counts of theft under $5000 and one count of possession of stolen property. He was held for a bail hearing.
