Between October and November 2018, the Guelph Police Service commenced an investigation into multiple arsons at an elementary school in the south end of Guelph. On Dec. 13, 2018 (it is alleged that) an unknown male at the University of Guelph deliberately set three additional fires.
As a result of the investigation, and in collaboration with the University of Guelph Campus Police, Jonathan Gerow, a 23-year-old Guelph male, was arrested and charged with three counts of arson - disregard for human life, three counts of arson - damage to property, and two counts of breach his undertaking. Gerow appeared in court on Dec. 15, 2018.
