Assault charge after man allegedly spits on another

Police say incident happened downtown Wednesday morning between two men known to each other

A Guelph man faces assault and weapons charges following an altercation downtown Wednesday morning.

Approximately 8 a.m., two males known to each other were involved in a verbal argument at Wyndham Street North and Macdonell Street. As one male turned to leave, the other spit on him and punched him in the shoulder.

The suspect was located by police a short time later and arrested. During a search incident to arrest officers located a small knife in his pocket.

A 27-year-old Guelph man is charged with assault, carrying a concealed weapon and disobeying a court order. He was held for a bail hearing Friday.
